🎉We are having so much fun sharing our weekly #EchoSummerStories! Today, we introduce one of our Worship Team vocalists and eKids preschool teachers, Phyllis Guthua😁 Recently she shared her favorite scripture and opened up about the ways God is working in her life right now. Thank you, Phyllis, for sharing! "And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to His purpose for them" - Romans 8:28. "So, it was kinda hard for me to pick a favorite Bible verse, because I have a couple that I constantly refer to. I'd say that through all the ups and downs that I've had to go through, I have tended to go back to one of the verses that promises that things will work out in the end (even when it doesn't necessarily feel that way when going through a rough patch). This year, I've done a lot of reflection and have thought a lot about situations in my life when I had a really hard time believing that things will work out, but now, a year or two later, I look back and see God's hand all over those situations. This year has made me even more grateful for God's grace, presence and awesome manifestation in my life - I honestly don't know where I'd be without Him!" #EchoCommunityChurch #EchoSummerStories #EcuadorMissions

WE LOVE OUR CHURCH FAMILY! Each week we've been sharing an #EchoSummerStory with you from our local family, but today we're sharing the love with our GLOBAL FAMILY. In 2018, we met some amazing missionaries on our trip to Ecuador and we'd love to introduce you to Ed and Miriam Bosch for this week's Summer Story 🙌 : "Our family has been in Cuenca for over a year learning and working with Thom and Becky Davis and the other members of the Unsion team. 🌎 In our time in Cuenca we have worn many different hats. Ed stepped in as the director of Unsion Plus while Leah Diaz was home itinerating. Miriam (a nurse by trade) helped organize the medical teams that volunteered their time over the summer of 2018. Ed has been involved with the church planting efforts in Jima Ecuador ( a town approximately 1.5 hours outside of Cuenca). As well we have taken on the role of youth leaders for a local AG church here in Cuenca. Sunday Recap This past Sunday Pastor James continued in our series, "Majoring in the Minors" with, "Jonah". The text was Jonah 1:1-3, 3:1-5, 3:10, 4:1-2, 4:4, & 4:10. The big idea was that, "In the book of Jonah, nothing happens the way you expect it to." Question#1 What is the purpose of the book of Jonah? - Just like the other prophetic books, Jonah is designed to put God's people face-to-face with their sin in an effort to lead them to repentance. Question #2 How does Jonah point us toward Christ? - God uses Jonah's shortcomings to point the way to Jesus. She's been part of the Echo family for four years and there's a good chance you've seen her before if you've visited on a Sunday morning (hint: up on the platform perhaps?) 😁We checked in with her last weekend during our Sunday morning load-in before service to ask her a few questions. . . Where do you serve at Echo? I serve as a youth mentor for The Well Student Ministries, our church youth group. Tell us about your favorite bible verse and something amazing God has done in your life this year: "This year, I have newly experienced what it means to draw from the comfort and joy of knowing God is my friend. There are no better arms to run to in sorrow or celebration. No one knows me better! Even in the toughest times, when we are at our worst, He is close to us. His story is going to be awesome! 🎉 "Through Cru, God has called me to share on college campuses what Jesus offers all of us and to walk with students through what can be a tumultuous and impactful time. I engage students in conversation, share my story, and make myself available for questions on faith and/or Jesus, for Bible study, for discipleship, for encouragement. I am married to a gracious and beautiful woman, Kristen. We are parents to Samson, Louisa, and Greta, and we live in Baltimore area. My work with Cru has taken me to Johns Hopkins University, where I graduated with an M.A. in Creative Writing in 2011. The goal at JHU is to shepherd a group that is not afraid to ask questions, share its journey, get its hands dirty, and proclaim the good news. This past Sunday we celebrated Father's Day and Pastor Phil continued in our series, "Majoring in the Minors" with, "Amos". The text was Amos 7:12-15. How do I apply this text to my life today? 1. God is deeply concerned with both the physical needs and the spiritual needs of His people. 2. God does not separate our worship from our treatment of people. 3. The life of a Christian should resemble a river of justice and righteousness, not injustice and hypocrisy. 🎉🎉🎉 Woowoo! We're celebrating our first #EchoSummerStory with Connie Moore! Connie serves as Echo's treasurer and as a greeter at our guest New Here booth on Sunday mornings. / / / We asked her to share her favorite scripture and how it impacted her life. "My favorite verse is Deuteronomy 1:30-31 'The Lord your God, who is going before you, will fight for you, as he did for you in Egypt, before your very eyes, and in the desert. There you saw how the Lord your God carried you, as a father carries his son, all the way you went until you reached this place.'" "Pastor Phil’s message on May 5th hit me directly in the heart. Pastor asked, “does Jesus still amaze you?” I had to honestly answer no. With my OCD, fears and anxieties was there any room for amazement? I had to admit that my Bible study and prayer life were methodical and on autopilot; the amazement was gone. For some reason my believing that the Lord was still fighting for me and carrying me, was no longer occurring. Like many of us, I remember times when I was on fire for the Lord and was amazed on a daily basis. I had a strong prayer life and witnessed miracles for me and others. How did I become so complacent? I believed but was not amazed. I wanted to be amazed again. I made an immediate decision to get my heart in line with my brain and re-introduce myself to God. I made a decision to take my prayer time and Bible study seriously with an open heart. He did not abandon me in the desert of Egypt; He was always there waiting for me. He was full of love and excitedly waiting to open the door and carry me again. My amazement did not return instantaneously but is growing. My heart now once again looks forward to studying the Word and spending time with Him. When the OCD and anxieties kick in during the day or during sleep, I immediately go to my Father for only the way He can be there for me in the deserts of my life."
